Challenge
Kokyo Coffee needed more than a logo. The owner's vision, a coffeehouse that feels like returning to your hometown, is an emotional brief. The risk with emotional briefs is that they produce generic "warm and cozy" aesthetics that look like every other cafe. The design had to carry specific meaning, not just a mood.
Approach
Started from the name itself. Kokyo in Japanese means hometown, a place to return to. Built the core mark around two layered ideas: a pathway, symbolizing the act of coming home, fused with the letter K as the brand's initial. The result is a symbol that reads clean and bold at a glance, but rewards closer attention with meaning. The visual system was kept minimal and precise to give the brand longevity and room to grow across touchpoints.Kokyo Coffee launched with a cohesive visual identity system, from logo to packaging and marketing kit, that communicates the brand's character immediately. The mark is distinctive enough to stand on its own without the wordmark, a benchmark for a strong brand symbol.
